AbstractAsan important food crop,foxtail miletcan becultivated inaridand saline alkali and otherareas.The efcts of abiotic stress were summarized,such as water,temperature,saline-alkali,and heavy metalson this crop. Water stresscan afect the germinationrate and yield formation of seeds,and underdrought stress,plants usuall close their stomata to maintain water balance within thecells.Saline-alkali stresscan inhibit the growth and developmentof plants,resulting inrestrictedrotgrowth,impaired photosynthesis,and damage to theantioxidantsystem.Temperature stresscan causechanges inthe plant morphology of foxtail millet,high temperature stress results inthe productionof empty grains,a decrease in the number of grains per ear,and a reduction in thousand grain weight,low temperature stressleads to impaired photosynthesis,reducedyield,anddecreasedquality.Heavymetal stress(suchascadmium, lead,etc.)hasasignificantimpactonthegrowth,development,andyieldformationoffoxtailmilet,andhastoxiceffects on its antioxidant systemand metabolicregulation.In production,the stressresistanceoffoxtail milletcan beenhanced bybreeding stressresistant varietiesand adjusting field management measures.This article provides areference for promoting the research on stress resistant breeding of foxtail millet.
