Journals with the Name China Youth and the Conceptualization and Shaping of“Youth” by Multiple Forces During the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression

Xia Qing

Abstract: During the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggession, the Communist Party of China((CPC),the Kuomintang(KMT),and the puppet regime all published periodicals that were titled“China Youth”. These journals competed with one another ideologically over the mobilization and shaping of young people, and such efforts collectively reflected the distinct conceptualizationsand expectations that each political entity held regarding “ youth".The CPC integrated young people into a broader,clas-based framework, emphasizing their integration with workers and peasants and advocating their transformation through productive labor.KMT sought to cultivate young people as a“reserve forcefor the partyand the nation”,yetthe tendency of the Three People’s Principles Youth League to act as a“second party” exacerbated the internal divisions within the KMT. The puppet regime attempted to turn young people into“new citizens”who were loyal to its authority. However, its fragmented structure andconflicting agendas led to its disintegration. These divergent strategies fordefining and positioning young people provide a critical lens through which to examine the core characteristicsand ideological orientations of these political forces.

“青年”不仅是一种年龄划分,更是特定历史条件下被塑造和赋予特定社会与文化含义的群体。(剩余11865字)
