Cui Yuzhi's Reform of Tax and Corvee in Hainan

Abstract:CuiYuzhiwasanoutstandingpoliticianandstrategistintheSouthernSongDynasty.Hedevotedhislifetonational unityandsocialstabiltyInteSongDynastyHainanwashomtoalargenumberofLipeople.Duetoteremotegeographylef thedynastywasoutoforderinHainan.CuiYuzhivisited HainanandfoundthatthetaxandcorveeinHainan weretooheavy.Then heabolishedtheunreasonabletaxandcorveesystem,andrecommendedtheimplementationofexemptionlaws.ThesepoliciesnotonlyreducedthepresureonpeopleofallethnicgroupsinHainan,butalsopromotedsocialstabityandharmonyintheetnicreaof Hainan.CuiYuzhisefectivemanagementofHainanenhancedrecognitionoftheSong Dynastybyallethnicgroupsin Hainanand acceleratedtheprocessofinlandizationinHainan.Thethoughtof"lightcorveeandthintax"and"rulebycustos"embodiedinhis policiesprovidedareferenceforthegovernanceofHainanintheYuan,MingandQingdynasties,andplayedanimportantrole nthe historical formation and practice of the Chinese national community.
