The Folk Beliefs and Folk Cultural Phenomena of Fuzhou in the Qing Dynasty as Reflected in Ryukyu Mandarin Textbook The Mandarin Questions and Answers for Practical Use

Abstract：The MandarinQuestionsandAnswers for Practical Use，compiledbyRyukyuanscholars inthe18thcenturyasa Chineseconversatioaltextbook，holdsmultfacetedculturalandhistoricalsignificance.Writeninadistinctiveialoguefoatit systematicallydocuments thecomplete learning processofRyukyuoffcial studentsstudying Mandarin withlocal "Chineselaguage teachers"inFuzhouuringtheQingDyastyMoreover，itcontainsdetaileddescriptiosofFuzhousfolkreligiousrialsandaso alfestivalactivis，uchadragonboatracingduringteDragonBoatestival，theMid-utunFestialtraditionof"lightingthe lamps onthetowers"，celebratingthe WinterSolstic，aswellasgrandfolkeventslike"Ying Dongyue Hui"and"Chenghuang hui". This worktransendsthelimitationsoftraditionalhistoricaldocumentsbyprovidingvividfeldrecordsforthestudyoflcaluzhou cultureduringtheQingDynasty，recreatingtheauthenticsocialpanoramaof18th-centuryMincapital.Ontheotherhand，italso servesaspreiousevidenceofculturalexchangebetweenChinaandtheRyukyuKingdom，bearing witnesstothelong historyofmutual cultural influence and cross-civilizational dialogue between the two nations.
