Abstract:The vascular plant one-zinc finger protein(VOZ)is a transcription factor specific to higher plants,which is involved inregulatingplant growthanddevelopment,aswellasresponding tobioticandabioticstresss.Toidentifythe VOZ gen familyofcotonandanalyze thefunctionof the GhVOZ1geneundersalt stress,theVOZ familyindiploid and tetraploidcottn species was analyzed.The results showed that diploid and tetraploid cotton species contained 3and 8 VOZ members,respectively,and the structures of most VOZs genes in Gossypium hirsutum and G. barbadense were highly conserved.GaVOZ1,GrVOZ1,GhVOZ1,GhVOZ5,GbVOZ1andGbVOZ6 clustered together with several salttolerant genes,indicating that this group of VOZs had similar functions.The expression of GhVOZs was significantly upregulated undersalt stressfor12h.Among them,the expressionlevelsof GhVOZ1and GhVOZ5 were upregulated by nearly7times compared with the watercontrol,suggesting that these2 genes were importantcandidate genes involved in the response tosalt stress.GhVOZ1 was localized in cytoplasm,anditsoverexpression in Arabidopsis thaliana could significantly enhance thesalt toleranceof theplants.Aboveresultsprovidedreferencefordeeperunderstanding of the functionof cotton VOZ genes undersalt stressandoffer new gene resources for molecular improvementofsalt tolerance.
