Abstract： Muscle and adipose tissue are important components of the livestock organism，and they both act as endocrine organs to secrete cytokines，exosomesand other substances，and toregulate intramuscularfatdeposition by autocrine and paracrine means.There are diffrences in intramuscular fat deposition among diferent varieties， strains，and evendiffrent individualsof thesame strain.Intramuscular fatis closelyrelatedto meat qualityand flavour.However，itsdepositionisinfluencedbygenetic，environmentalandnutritionallevel factors，and isalso interconnected with muscle tissue.Thedevelopmentand typeof muscle fiberand the numberof myogenic cels also afct intramuscular fat deposition.Therefore，the recent research progresson skeletal muscle-adiposecrosstalk mainly in terms of cytokines，exosomes，metabolites andthe function of organeles were reviewed，whichlaid some foundation for genetic improvement of intramuscular fat and meat quality and flavor.
