Reductive amination of furfural to furfurylamine using a NiPd/ SiO2 bimetallic catalyst

Abstract:Inorder to improve theactivityandstabilityof Ni-basedcatalysts in thereductiveaminationoffurfural, NiPd/ SiO2 bimetallic catalysts were prepared by the co-impregnation method and used for the reductive amination of furfural to furfurylamine using an aqueous ammonia solution and molecular hydrogen asan amine source andareducing agent,respectively.The efects of Ni/Pd molar ratio,reaction temperature,hydrogen pressure and catalyst dosage on furfural conversion and furfurylamine selectivity were investigated.Meanwhile,thereusability and the universality ofthecatalyst were studied.Theresults show thatacompleteconversion of furfuraland91.6%furfurylamineyield wereachievedover the optimalNiPd(1:4)/SiO catalyst under the reaction conditions of 130‰ and2 2 MPa H2 for 3h .Furthermore,the catalyst still shows good activity after four recycle times.Additionally,the catalyst exhibits high performance in the reductive amination of various aldehydes to the corresponding primary amines.
