Wetting characteristics of droplets on striped chemical heterogeneous surfaces

Abstract: Heterogeneous weting behavior ubiquitous exist on surfaces.In order to investigate the wetting characteristics,seven millimeter-scale striped polytetrafluoroethylene(PFA)-Cu surfaces with different relative hydrophobicity were prepared bycoating technologyand mechanical processing method.Three-dimensional visualization experimental platform was establishedby depositing droplets at zero velocity.Efects of droplet volumeand deposition position were investigated.Theresults indicate that with the increasing droplet volume,the dropletundergoes auniform—nonuniform—uniform weting proces.The width of the hydrophilic region plays a decisiverole.When the ratioof droplet diameter to the width of the hydrophilic region isless than8,anisotropic wetting is observed.However,isotropic wetting occurs with theratio greaterthan 8,which is in good agreement with the Casie model.This research enriches the wetting data on striped surfaces and provide a basis for functional surface design in related fields.
