Rediscovering the Craftsman： A Review of Richard Sennett's The Craftsman

Abstract： Richard Sennett’ s book The Craftsman reframes our understanding of the vital role of craftsmen in contemporary society. Through concrete case analysis，the author illuminates the philosophical underpinnings and practical essence of craftsmanship， compellingly debunking the stereotypical view that sees craftsmanship as mindless repetitions. Asa breakthrough from orthodox perspective， Sennett disentangles craftsmanship from its traditional link to manual labor， repositioning it as a valuable social ethic manifest in humanity’s pursuit of excellence. His rigorous analysis of craftsmanship offers valuable insights for China'scurrent intangiblecultural heritage protection initiatives.
