Improving People's Wellbeing Is a New Driving Force for Upgrading Household Consumption: AnalysisBasedonCFPSData

Abstract:This article uses data fromthe China FamilyPanelStudies(CFPS)from 2018 to 2O22 to explore theimpact and mechanism of improving people's wellbeing on household consumption upgrading. Research has found that improving people's welleing significantlypromotes the upgrading ofhouseholdconsumption,especiallyintheeasternregion,rural areas,andloweducatedandlow-income groups.The improvement of people's welleing has the most significant fecton promoting development oriented consumption,folowed byenjoymentoriented consumption,andsurvival oriented consumptionisrelativelyweak; theimprovementofemploymentandeducationhas the strongestpromoting efect,followed by healthcare,housing,socialsecurity,etc.Thenarrowing effectof the wealth gapis relativelyweak.Improving people's wellbeing promotes theupgrading of household consumption by increasing household income and boosting consumption confidence; government interventionplays a positive moderating role in improving people's wellbeing and promotingthe upgrading of household consumption.From the perspectiveof ensuring and improving people's wellbeing,it has expanded thefeasible path topromote the upgading of household consumption,providing usefulreferences forpromotingavirtuous cycle of economic development and improving people's wellbeing.
