Abstract：Transportation and municipal infrastructure function as both a support system for delivering and distributing public resources and a pivotal operational element in urban design.This paper introduces the theory of the'technical object'，positioning infrastructureas an active agent in urban design through its transition from materialization to dematerialization.Using the critical history of urban design in Shenzhen as ananalytical framework，this study examines the mutual interaction and correlation between urban design and infrastructure across the evolution ofpractical concepts，normative standards，and disciplinaryparadigms. Furthermore，this paperanalyzes the role of infrastructure elements in guiding urban design practicesand their formative impact，demonstrating how infrastructure serves as a structural，functional，and productive element. Ultimately，this study argues that infrastructure has consistently guided the expansion，restructuring，and high-quality developmentof urban space in Shenzhen throughout its historical trajectory.
