Abstract:Thisarticle examines the integral role of regional characteristics orlocality-including historical geographyand communitydynamics一 inShenzhen's rapid urbanizationand the reciprocal influence between existing localityand new urban development.It re-evaluates Shenzhen's geographical characteristics and their implications for newurban growth, highlighting the region's historical maritime advantagesand ecological transformations of the eastern Pearl River Estuary.The articlealso considers the influential roles of Hong Kong and the Kowloon-Canton Railway in Shenzhen's development.Furthermore,it explores how the city's urban planning addresses geographical constraints and the impact of informal construction.The article highlights Shenzhen's recent urban planning policies,such as “mountains and seas connecting the city"and "ocean city"and their relationships to Shenzhen's ecological and historical geographic resources.It emphasizes that local entities are crucial in shaping the city's unique identity.The conclusion asserts that locality serves not onlyas the foundationand context of urban development butalso asa core element in defining its distinctiveness and success.
