Controversial lssues, Application Limitations and Developmental Trajectory of Sports Training Periodization Theory

Abstract: This study employs literature review, expert interviews and logical analysis to systematically review and objectively evaluate relevant literature on the classical training periodization theory, aiming to uncover controversial issues and application limitations in its developmental trajectory and propose corresponding solutions. The findings indicate that the controversies surrounding the classical periodization theory of athletic training center on the empirical validity of its theoretical foundations,its applicability to team sports and emerging disciplines, its guidance for commercialization and multi-competition training demands, as well as the individualization and precision of load arrangements. The application limitations are primarily reflected in insufficient validity of practical guidance,limited sport-specific adaptability,suboptimal applicability of phase division, and the complexity of regulating training load adaptation. To address these challenges,this study proposes the following solutions: strengthening theoretical and empirical validity through multidisciplinary research advancements,conducting in-depth studies driven by cluster-based characteristics of sports,balancing trainingand competition objectivesvia flexible phase periodization, and exploring technology-driven individualized training load regulation.
