Generative AI-Powered Embodied Cognitive Turn in School Physical Education: Real-World Obstacles and Solutions

Abstract: Against the backdrop of accelerating educational digitalization and intelligence, generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) has emerged as a key driver for the transformation and upgrading of school physical education. While the traditional “teacher demonstration-student imitation” skill-based model has played a positive role in standardizing movements and improving physical fitness, it remains insufficient in promoting cognitive generation, situational transfer,and educational value realization. Grounded in embodied cognition theory, this paper systematically analyzes the intrinsic logic of the shift in school physical education from skill imitation to cognitive generationempowered by GenAI. It identifies four major obstacles: superficial cognition, lack of situational engagement, fragmented technological application, and weakened educational orientation. To address these issues, four pathways are proposed:(l) leveraging immersive multimodal contexts to enhance perceptual awakening and higher-order cognitive interaction; (2)integrating AI technologies to activate bodily cognitive potential and achieve a transformation from mechanical training to embodied thinking; (3) optimizing teaching mechanisms and expressive pathways to build an integrated “teaching-learning-assessment-reflection-improvement” closed loop; and (4) promoting teacher competence reconstruction and collaborative platform development to foster deep integration among humans, technology, and pedagogy.
