Carbon Reduction Effect of Major Multi-Sport Event in Guangdong Province and its Implications for the 15th National Games

Abstract： The National Games in 2O25 being jointly hosted by Guangdong，Hong Kong and Macao for the first time is a big step in the coordinated development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The game has aroused wide concern at home and abroad.As a major emitter of carbon dioxide， the reduction of carbon emission have similarly drawn international attention. Based on this，this paper uses the quasi-natural experiment method to carry out an empirical test of the carbon emission reduction effect of the 2O1O Asian Games based on an urban panel data from 2005 to 2019， aiming to provide reference for the carbon neutral management of the 15th National Games. The empirical results are as followed. ① The carbon emission reduction effect of the host city was significantly greater than that of the co-host city. ② Hosting the Asian Games had positive influence on the carbon emision reduction performance by optimizing the road traffic system and promoting the upgrading of industrial structure， but had negative influence by establishing tourism city brand. ③ With the improvement of regions'technology level and residents' educational level， the carbon emission reduction effect of hosting the Asian Games is becoming more and more significant. The paper proposes to take low carbon supply and low carbon demand as guidance to provide reference for accelerating the realization of carbon reduction in the 15th National Games.
