Abstract：The viability and sustainable development of ICH are directly related to the effectiveness of Intangible Cultural Heritage（ICH）safeguarding practices，the basic livelihood security of inheritors，and the practical feedback from grassroots practitioners. Based on field investigations in five cities in Gansu Province-Jiuquan， Zhangye， Tianshui，Dingxi， and Longnan-this article presents the current state oflintangible cultural heritage preservation and development from the perspective of local practices. While notable achievements have been made in ICH safeguarding across these regions， several challenges persist，including gaps in intergenerational transmission，discrepancies in policy implementation，and inadequate economic support.As such，the protection of ICH in Gansu should build on existing local practices to establish a more integrated and effective support system. Such an approach must continuously address the subsistence and development needs of key stakeholders like the inheritors， thereby facilitatinga transition frommere technical preservationtocomprehensive and sustainable development.
