Abstract：The establishment of a classification and coding system for industrial heritage forms the foundation of theoretical research and practical application in this field. At present， China’s industrial heritage classification still faces problems such as an unclear core orientation and inappropriate use of terminology. It is therefore imperative to systematically study the standard setting and classification principles of existing industrial heritage classification systems at home and abroad，and to propose and code a classification system adaptive to China’s context and highlights the characteristics of industrial heritage.This paper establishes a technology-informed industrial heritage classification system based on six dimensions-industry-based，integration of heritage categories，emphasis on industrial production processes and spatial patterns，and inclusion of essential historical and geographical information-and develops a 14- character coding system combining numerals and English letters. Finally，several typical cases are selected for empirical application of the system. The classification and coding of industrial heritage is an iterative process of optimization and improvement，which should allow for appropriate flexibility for adjustment.
