Abstract: A decade has passed since June 2Ol4, when the transnational heritage site Silk Roads: the Routes Network of Chang'an-Tianshan Corridor, jointly nominated by China, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, was inscribed on the World Heritage List, yet in-depth reflections on this nomination remain inadequate. In September 2023, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan achieved another successful joint nomination with Silk Roads: the Zarafshan-Karakum Corridor, which was also added to the World Heritage List. Currently, the third phase of the Silk Roads nomination, the CaspianVolga Corridor, is being actively advanced, with ongoing identification of heritage sites along the corridor- including integrated archaeological research on overland routes and underwater cultural heritage. Due to insufficient research by Chinese scholars on the extended sections of the Silk Roads and the cultural heritage of Central Asia, as well as a lack of robust responses to the continuation of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) Thematic Study on the Silk Roads, Chinese academia is not only faced with the challenge of broadening academic horizons and making groundbreaking achievements, but this research also bears on the in-depth development of future cultural exchanges between the East and the West, making it a crucial research agenda that demands national support.
