Preparation and Performance of Liquid Cold Sealing Materials for Asphalt Pavement in Western Mountainous Areas

Abstract:Inorder to prepare the cold-filld joint material suitable forasphalt pavement in western mountainous areas, GS90# matrix asphalt,granular styrene - butadiene rubber(SBR),coumarone resin and neoprene were used as intermediates and dissolved in xylene,and the effects of diferent dosages of xylene on the Brinell viscosity of the solution were studied,the appropriate dosage of xylene was finally determined. Based on the orthogonal test,a one-component liquid cold filling material (LCFM) was prepared by using the range analysis method to determine the appropriate dosage of each admixture, taking the elastic recovery rate,adhesion,tensile strength and elongation at break as the basic technical indexes. The low-temperature performance,construction performance,permeability and bonding performance and shear resistance of the combined structure formed by the crack wall were compared and analyzed by laboratory tests,in comparison with conventional hot-pour sealant (Sample A)and cold-pour sealant (Sample B). The results show that when the mass ratio of GS90# asphalt, SBR,coumarone resin, neoprene and xylene is 100:7:7:11:45 ,the basic technical indexes of LCFM reach the optimum.
Compared with samples A and B,LCFM has better low-temperature performance, weaker temperature sensitivity and stronger permeability. Moreover,the combination structure formed by LCFM and crack has high bonding strength and large failure energy,and has good folow-up to crack deformation. The prepared liquid cold joint filing material exhibits excellent performance and has application potential in the field of crack treatment of asphalt pavement in western mountainous areas.
