Preparation of Flexible CuFe2O4/Fe2O3 Fibers and Their Adsorption Performance for Pb(II)

Abstract: A simple sol -gel method was developed to prepare precursor spinning solution,and then the magnetic CuFe2O4/Fe2O3 fiberswith excellent flexibility were prepared through electrospinning and heat treatment process,and were applied to the adsorption of heavy metal ions Pb(II) . The results show that the saturation magnetization of the flexible CuFe2O4/Fe2O3 fibers is ,and the surface area is calculated to be 13. 162m2/g . In the adsorption experiment, the maximum adsorption capacity of CuFe2O4/Fe2O3 fibers for Pb(II) calculated from Langmuir model is 50.53mg/g ,which is better than that of CuFe2O4 and Fe2O3 nanoparticles. The high adsorption capacity is due to the self-supporting and non-agglomeration of CuFe2O4/Fe2O3 fibers in aqueous solution,which can fully utilize the adsorption effect of the active sites on the material surface.At the same time, CuFe2O4/Fe2O3 fibers have a strong affinity for Pb(II) and excellent cycling performance. The adsorption priority order of heavy metal ions on CuFe2O4/Fe2O3 fibers is Pb(II)>Cu(II)>Cr(II)>Zn(II)>Ni(II) ,and the fiber adsorbent stil maintains more than 71% of the original adsorption capacity after five adsorption - desorption cycles. Flexible magnetic fibers provide a new solution for simultaneously improving the adsorption capacity of pollutant and achieving rapid magnetic separation.
