Title:Modern Interpretation of Traditional Translation Discourse On Manchu-Chinese Translation

Abstract: On Manchu-Chinese Translation, writen by Wei Xiangqian, a Qing dynasty scholar, is a rare treatise in the history of Chinese translation studies that specifically explores translation, possessing considerable theoretical and historical value. This study examines the rich cultural connotations embedded in it concerning translation from three dimensions: textual content, linguistic form, and philosophical essence. Framed within modern translation theories, this paper interprets its viewpoints on four key aspects: the nature of translation, translation criteria, text typology, and translation criticism. By doing so,it highlights the vitality and contemporary value of traditional Chinese translation discourse, ofering insights for extending the legacy of China's indigenous translation discourse and constructing a culturally-grounded theoretical framework for translation studies.
