Title: The“Gate of Perception”to the“Visions”of the Prophet Poet: A Review of Leo Damrosch's Eternity's Sunrise: The Imaginative World of William Blake
Abstract: Leo Damrosch's Eternity's Sunrise: The Imaginative World of William Blake is a critical biography of William Blake, the British Romantic poet and artist. Both the value of the original work and the quality of its translation are of high standard. Starting with Blake’s early years of art practice and moving through the stages of his creative journey from Innocence, Experience, Revolution,to The Prophetic Calland finally to The Traveler in the Evening, the author explores the poet's symbolic world and complicated mythological system in his poems and paintings, and presents to readers in a simple but profound way Blake's philosophical,political, religious,and artistic views as well as his aesthetic experiences. Damrosch weaves together time, space,and themes of Blake's poetry, accompanied by a large number of his drawings and paintings (colored engravings),aiming to reproduce Blake's visionary powers and his extraordinary originality in poetic and artistic creation.
