Synthesis and antibacterial performance of gradient ZIF-8 films doped with strontium on titanium alloy

Abstract: In order to endow titanium alloys with osteogenic and antibacterial properties, TiO2 nanorods (TN) films were prepared on the surface of pure titanium using a hydrothermal method, then various strontium-doped ZIF-8 (Sr-ZIF-8) coatings were synthesized. TN/Sr-ZIF-8 composite films were fabricated using these above two processes. The study found that the doping concentration of strontium affected the morphology of ZIF-8, but not its phase composition. Electrochemical test results showed that the strontium doping improved the corrosion resistance of the film in simulated body fluid.Metal ions could be released over a long period in simulated body fluid, and the release rate varied under different pH conditions, indicating the pH responsiveness of ZIF-8. In vitro mineralization experiments demonstrated that the ability of the film to induce hydroxyapatite formation was positively correlated with the strontium doping concentration. Furthermore, in vitro antibacterial tests showed that ZIF-8 exhibited antimicrobial activity against both Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, with inhibition rates of 72.4% and 48.3% ,respectively.
