Reflecting on Fair Officiating System of Chinese Professional Football League： Based on Referee Performance Data

Abstract：The referee is vital for the development of soccer. Under the backdrop of the big data era and the high-quality oriented Chinese soccer reform， through literature review，interview with experts， video analysis and statistics， this study analyzed the technical performance characeristics of referees in 1440 matches of the Chinese Super League in the 2014-2019. Results indicated that net time of competition， total running distance， foul times and average judgment distance had changed significantly during the six seasons （ P<0.05） . There is no significant difference between Chinese and foreign international level referees （ P>0.05） . The running distance of professional referees was slightly more than that of non-professional referees （ P<0.05 ） and the average penalty distance of professional referees was less than non - professional referees （ （P<0.05） . Finally，the study proposes that in addition to “bringing in”， atention should be paid to improving the system for evaluating the technical performance of referees： increasing the net playing time to enhance the entertainment value of the League; increasing the distance covered by players to improve physical performance; and shortening the distance of penalties to ensure fairness in the matches.
