Design and Strength Safety Analysis of Pressure Relief Device for Perforating Gun

Abstract: Perforation detonation produces high-temperature and high-pressure gas. If the pressure exceeds the internal pressure strength of the gun body,the perforating gun would break,leading to accidents such as gun expansion and jamming.To prevent the perforating gun from damaging in high-temperature and high-pressure gas, a piston-spring perforating gun pressure relief device was designed,helping the perforating gun achieve pressure relief and ensuring the safety of perforating operations.The pressure relief device is mainly composed of pressure relief connecting cylinder,pressure relief sleeve,spring,piston rod and sealing ring.When the gas pressure inthe perforating gun is high,it pushes the piston rod to compress the spring. The large end face of the piston rod moves to the pressure relief hole on the pressre relief sleeve,andthe gas flows into the tubing-casing anulus through the pressure relief hole,thus achieving the purpose of pressure relief.Finally,a 3D finite element model of the pressure relief device for perforating gun was built to analyze the strength safety of the presure relief device under workingconditions.The analysis results show that under conventional working presure,the maximum equivalent stresses of the pressure relief connecting cylinder,pressure relief sleeve and spring are 593.57MPa ,554.6 MPa and1 117.5 MPa respectively,with safety factors of 1.28,1.37 and1.23,indicating that the pressure relief device for perforating gun meets the strength safety requirements.The pressure relief device for perforating gun is simple in structure,easy to installand reusable,and it can effectively play a role in pressure relief and bufring, and ensure the safety of perforating operations.
