Abstract:Osteoporosis(OP)isamultifactorial systemic skeletaldisease characterized primarilybyclinical symptoms such as bone pain,muscle weakness,fractures,and limited mobility.The disruption of the balance between bone resorptionandboneremodelingisanimportantaspectof thepathologicalmechanismofOP.Endoplasmicreticulumstress (ERS),as a self-defense response,is a means by which cells cope with the accumulation of unfolded or misfolded proteins in the endoplasmic reticulum and disturbances in calcium ions.An increasing numberof studies have confirmed thatERSplaysakeyroleinthepathologicalmechanismsofOP,butthespecificmechanismsremainunclear.Thisarticle reviews the pathological mechanisms ofOP,theconnection between ERS andOP,and the potential value of targeting ERS for the treatment of OP,with the goal of providing insights for the prevention and treatment of OP.
