From Countryside to Marketplace:On the Cultural Space and Musical Form of Huangmei Opera's Guomen

Abstract:Asan integral part of theaccompanimentart in Huangmei Opera,the guomen(musical interlude) playsa positiverole in enhancing musical expresson,highlighting singing styles,creating stage atmospheres,emphasizing dramatic plots,strengthening emotional resonance,andassistingactors toquickly"enterthe melody"and “get into the tune”.To reveal thedeep cultural implicationsand artistic principles of Huangmei Opera's guomen during the transition fromruraltourbanculture,this paper analyzes itsmanifestation forms,stylistic features,and survival environments indiferentperiods.Basedonthis,typical HuangmeiOperarepertoiresare selected to explore the morphological characteristics and functional mechanisms of lead $\ulcorner$ in,inter-phrase,and closing guomen.The conclusions areas folows:(1)Since the mid-Qing Dynasty,theguomen of Huangmei Opera has undergone the influence of“square culture”,"grass-roots stage culture”,“flower stage culture”,and“professional stage culture”,gradually developing its unique musical color and stylistic charm;(2)Since the foundingof the People's RepublicofChina,the communal spiritualvalues,collctive creative forms,and versatileartistic characteristics embodied in the musical forms of Huangmei Opera's guomen have become thecornerstoneof the developmentof modern Huangmei Opera music.The in-depth study focusing on theguomen of Huangmei Opera not only showcases theculturalcharmand contemporary vitalityof Huangmei Operaartbut also provides theoretical support for the inheritance and innovation of Chinese operatic music in the present day.
