Abstract:Thisarticleoffersacritical reflection on the standardization of housing production in contemporary France. It challenges the prevailingnotion of a“one-size-fits-all"model by foregrounding the diversity of human conditions and the complexity of inhabiting. Drawing from both architectural practice and theoretical inquiry, the author advocates fora shiftaway fromregulation-drivenandmarketoriented housing systems toward spaces thatcan genuinely foster the experience of dwelling (habiter). The housing of the future,he argues, must become a place of hospitalityaspace opentoalterity, coexistence, and the surprise of being.Through case studies such asparticipatory cooperatives and minimal housing strategies, the article explores both the potential and the limits of alternative approaches.Ultimately, itcalls onarchitects to embrace theirethical responsibility in collective housing, and to design environments capable of hosting plural modes of living.
