Characterization and mechanism of droplet aerosol agglomeration under the effect of low-frequency acoustic waves

Abstract: Industry generates a large number of liquid droplets which,if not treated,can cause waste or polution, and evenposeasafety hazard.To investigate theefect ofacousticon theagglomerationofdroplet aerosols,an experimental platform was setup with a laser testing system to monitor the transmitance of droplet aerosols in real time.The study primarily focused on the influences of the presence of acoustic waves,acoustic frequency,sound pressure level,and initial droplet mass concentrationon droplet agglomeration,andalsoanalyzed the agglomeration mechanism.The results show that:under the efect of acoustic wave,the droplet aerosol dissipates rapidly,and the transmittance reaches 68% in1O s,while the transmittance does not change in 6O s whenthere is no acoustic wave; Thebest droplet agglomeration is observed at an acoustic frequency of 1000Hz ,andcalculation of the entrainment coefcient and therelative entrainment coeficient indicates that the orthokinetic interaction plays a majorroleat this frequency;The higher thesound pressure level,the faster the change in transmitance of the droplet aerosol, and the bettertheagglomeration effect,but the sound pressure level should notbetoo high as it would increase energyconsumption and lead to nonlinear efects,limiting the improvement in agglomeration eficiency;Higher initial droplet mass concentration results in faster agglomeration rates because there are more droplets within a unit volume,reducing the distance between droplets and making collsions and aglomeration more likely.This study reveals the characteristics and mechanisms of droplet aerosol agglomeration,providing important theoretical guidance forthe effective control of droplets in industrial production processes.
