From MTPE to AlPE： Evolution of Translation Modes in the GenAl Era and Its Implications for Translation Education

Abstract： The rapid advancement and widespread adoption of large language models are transforming traditional translation modes. This paper examines the evolution of translation modes from human translation to Machine Translation Post-Editing （MTPE），and further to Artificial Intelligence Post-Editing（AIPE），while analyzingtheir impact on translation education.The transformation in translation technology has catalyzed a restructuring of translation production relationships. As an emerging collaborative mode between humans and artificial intelligence，AlPE is gradually supplanting MTPE and becoming the industry standard， thanks to its enhanced interactivity， sophisticated contextual comprehension，and advanced inteligence. However， the implementation of the AlPE mode encounters several challenges， including technological constraints， elevated requirements for translator competencies，and insufficient ethical frameworks. Consequently， translation education must undergo several adaptations： redefining translation competence through a translator training model that integrates linguistic，professional，and technological expertise; innovating translation technology curicula and establishing a new pedagogical framework for Al-driven translation education；broadening the scope of required competencies to enhance technological literacy；and fostering ethical awareness to mitigate technological risks.This study ofers fresh perspectives on understanding the transformation of translation modes in the generative artificial intelligence（GenAl）era while providing strategic direction for the reformation of translation education.
