Comparative Analysis of Trends and Hotspots of Cognitive Grammar Studies in China and Abroad

Abstract: Based on the core journal literature of CNKl and Web of Science, this study employs CiteSpace knowledge graph analysis tool and bibliometric analysis method to visually analyzes the cognitive grammar research results in China and abroad from 2015 to 2024, to explore the status quo, research hotspots and frontiers. It is revealed that the annual volume of cognitive grammar in China and abroad has remained relatively stable. There are several major research institutions both domestically and internationally, but the distribution of institutions in China is more coordinated, while those abroad are mostly concentrated in the European and American regions. The level of cooperation between research institutions and researchers in China and abroad needs to be improved. Chinese researchers place more emphasis on the studies of the ontology of the Chinese language, whereas foreign researchers are committed to exploring the application of cognitive grammar in language teaching, literature, and multimodal fields. Future research can start from Chinese, compare the differences and similarities between Chinese and English dependent change constructions, propose new solutions for the classification of Chinese word classes, and explore how theories of cognitive grammar can be further applied to Chinese nativized research. The application of cognitive grammar in myriads of fields abroad suggests that domestic scholars might apply cognitive grammar to language teaching and other fields to give fullplay to the guiding role of theory in practice and promote the development of domestic studies.
