Aggregation-induced Emission Propertiesand Latent Fingerprint Imaging of Biphenyl-based Schiff Base Compounds

Abstract:To explore the optical properties and practical applications of biphenyl-based Schiffbase compounds, two Schiff base compounds, 3,3′′ ( 4,4′′′ -bis(diphenylamino)- ⌊1,1′:4′,1′′:4′′,1′′′ -quaterphenyl] ⋅2′′,3′ -diyl)bis (azanylylidene)bis(methanylylidene)bis( ⌊1,1′ -biphenyl]-4-ol)(LFP-1)and 3,3′′-(⌊1,1′:4′,1′′:4′′,1′′′ -quaterphenyl]- ⋅2′′,3′ -diyl)bis(azanylylidene)bis(methanylylidene)bis([1, 1′ -biphenyl]-4-ol)(LFP-2),weredesigned and synthesized. These compounds were constructed using 4, 4′ -dibromobiphenyl-2, 2′ -diamine as the molecular skeleton,which the π -conjugatedsystemswere extended at the 4,4′ -positionsand lateral groupswere introduced at the 2,2′ -positions.Optical performance testing revealed that both compounds exhibited excited-state intramolecular proton transfer(ESIPT)and aggregation-induced emision(AIE)properties in dimethyl sulfoxide/water mixtures. Furthermore,thesecompounds hadtheabilitytovisualizelatentfingerprintsonthreetypesofsubstrates:blades,tinfoil,andstainlesstel.Thefirst-,second-,andthid-levelfingerprintdetailswereclearlyidentifiable,ighlighting their potential for practical applications in forensic science.These findings layasolid foundation for thedesignof advanced materials for latent fingerprint visualization.
