Spatiotemporal heterogeneity and matching patterns of agricultural water-land resources in Hunan

Abstract:The spatial distribution pattern and matching of regional water-land resources significantly impact agricultural production. Since Hunan is a major grain-producing province in China, its spatiotemporal heterogeneity and matching patterns of agricultural water-land resources warrant in-depth investigation.This study calculated Hunan’s agricultural water-land matching coeficient since 2O0l using a combined Gini coefficient and water-land resources index method,further analyzing spatiotemporal heterogeneityand matching patternevolution.Key findings indicate:(1)Throughout the studyperiod,agricultural wateravailability remained stable with progressively optimizedresource coordination and narrowing regional disparities. (2)Temporaly,the matching pattern exhibited a“deterioration folowed by gradual recovery” trajectory,while spatially shifting from“east-superior/west-inferior with north-south equivalence” to“overall equilibrium with persistent western deficiency". Region -specific recommendations are proposed covering water infrastructure development, technological upgrades, ecological remediation,and water pricing mechanisms.
