Seismic performance of hybrid-reinforced UHPC precast segmental bridge piers

Abstract: To enhance the seismic performance of coastal precast segmental bridge piers,this study proposes a hybrid-reinforced ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC)segmental bridge pier system incorporating stainless steel barsand glass fiber reinforced plastic(GFRP)tendons.Numerical simulations investigate theefctsof UHPC compressive strength,stainless steel reinforcement ratio,and initial GFRP prestress on structural behavior.Results demonstrate that:(1) Increasing UHPC compressive strength from 10O MPa to 160 MPa elevates load -bearing capacity by 19.6% ,though marginal enhancement diminishes beyond 130MPa (2)Raising reinforcement ratio from 0.8% to 1.6% boosts cumulative energy dissipation by 72% ,confirming seismic resistance optimization within this range.(3) Higher initial GFRP prestress enhances self-centering capability but inhibits the rocking mechanism when exceeding thresholds.The optimal design is determined as 130MPa UHPC, 1.2% stainless steel reinforcement ratio,and 50% ultimate strength GFRP prestress.
