Effects of foliar application of inorganic and chelated calciumand zinc fertilizerson cadmium reduction in peanuts

Abstract:Theinfluenceoffoliaraplicationofmicronutrientsonthecadmium(Cd)content inpeanut grainsremainsambiguous.This studyexamiesttsofflppationofogaclertilcalate)gaccertclate) differentcelatedalum/zinfertilizers(EDTAcelatedcum/zin,sgaraloolcelatedcalcium/zinc)ontereductionofCdifour peanutvarieties(WanhuaNo.4Yueyou43,HuayuNo.2,andXianghua2008)throughpotandfieldexperiments.Theojectiveisto identifythemostefectivefoliarfertilizerforreducingCdcontentandtoelucidateitsunderlyingmechanism.Resultsfromthepot experimentsrevealedthatthefoliarapplicationofEDTAchelatedcalcium(DTA-Ca)andEDTAchelatedzinc(EDTA-Zn)treatments had the best Cd reduction effect,achievinga Cd reduction rate of 15.1% to 30.7% across all four peanut varieties.Field experiments further validated the Cdreduction effctofEDTA-Caand EDTA-Zntreatments,with Cdreduction rates in grains ranging from 24.0% to 40.0% MechanisticstudiesontheCdreductiofectofEDTA-CaandEDTA-ZntreatmentsintheYueyou43varietydemostratedthatDTACa and EDTA- -Zn treatments significantly increased Cd accumulation in peanut stems( 6.4% , 13.6% )and leaves (37.6%, 26.9% ), increasedtheproportionofCdinorganelesandsolublefractionsinstemsandleaves,andsignificantlyducedCdtranslocatiofrom stemsandleavestograins.Inconclusion,EDTA-chelatedcalciumandzincfertilizerssignificantlyreduceCdcontentinpeautgans.
