University Library Staff Evaluation: From Evaluating People to Evaluating Performance

Abstract Staf evaluation inuniversity librariesshouldnot focus onpersonality,but rather onachievementsand jobrelated behaviors.Itisanassessmentof performance and persuasivenessgrounded inprofessional responsibilities.The task servesasthefundamentalunitandvaluecarrerinprofessonal work.Therefore,universitylibrariesshouldestablish an achievement-based evaluation system centeredontask analysis.Evaluation tests show that person-focused asessments tendtoreflect interpersonalorrelationalvalue,whileperformance-basedassessments more efectivelycapturedifferences in position contribution value and possess stronger persuasive power.University libraries should,through position management,guidestafftopursue professonalachievements.Bystructuringevaluation targets,relationships,methods, andoutcomes around actual accomplishments,librariescan fulfill employees’needs for achievementand motivate them to pursue professional value more proactively.
