Effects of Biological Soil Crusts on the Restoration of Herbaceous Plants in Sandy Deserts

Abstract: Biological Soil Crusts (BSCs)and herbs are important components of desert ecosystems,they aredistributed in mosaic patern,the two are closely interconnected and interact with each other.Therefore, clarity of the influence of BSCs on herbaceous plants holds great significance for desert systemrestoration and biodiversityconservation.Basedonthis,the effects of three types of BSCs (algal crusts,lichen crusts,and moss crusts)and mixed crusts on herb seed banks,seed germination,growth,composition and diversity of herbs in the past 2O years were sorted out and summarized in this paper,meanwhile,the mechanism ofthe effects of BSCs on herbaceous plants was comprehensively analyzed,and future research directions on the effects of BSCs on herbaceous plants were proposed.
