Regional Disparitiesand Convergence in the Development of Silver Economy

Abstract： With China's aging population growingand the consumptiondemands of the elderly gradually being unleashed， thesilver economy isemerging asanew driver of economic development.This studyconstructsan evaluation index system forthesilvereconomyacrosssevendimensions：economiccontribution，socialsecurity，laboremployment，cultural education，infrastructure，enterpriseparticipation，anddemographicstructure.Using thentropymethod，we measurehe silver economydevelopment index for30 Chinese provinces from2014 to 2023，andanalyzeits spatiotemporal evolution and convergence through Dagum Ginicoeficientdecomposition，kerneldensitystimation，andconvergencefunctions. Theresults show thatsilver economy development has been increasing annually，with interegional disparitiesfollowing an"east-high，central-medium，west-low"pattern，whichconstitutes theprimarysourceofoveralldisparities.Atthe nationallevel，polarization exists butthegapbetween extremesandtheaverageis narowing.Regionallyonlytheastern areashows nopolarization，whilecentraland western regions exhibit significant polarization.Thereisno evidenceof σ0 -convergence or absolute β -convergence at the national level，across the three major regions （eastern，central，western）， orwithin both economically developed and less-developed areas.However，conditional β- convergenceisconsistently observed，indicating that provincial silver economydevelopmentlevelsaregraduallyconverging toward theirrespective steady-state equilibria.
