The Impact Mechanism of External Focus of Executive Attention in Platform ComplementaryEnterprisesonBreakthroughInnovation

Abstract：This essy developsa theoretical model grounded intheatention-based view to elucidate how complementary enterprises canachieve breakthrough inovation，byinvestigatingtheimpactof theexternal focusof executiveaention andabsorptivecapacityonsuch innovation，whilealsoexamining thecontingent efectsofabsorptivecapacityand platformsynergyontherelationshipbetween externalfocusand breakthrough innovation.Research findings：therelationship between theexternal focus of executive atentionand breakthrough inovation in platform complementary enterprises manifests as an "inverted U-shaped" curve; wherein a complementary enterprise's absorptivecapacity positivelycorrelates with itspropensityforbreakthrough innovation;whilebothabsorptivecapacityandplatformsynergyserveas moderating factors withinthis "inverted U-shaped"relationship.Theresearch findings ofervaluableinsightsandreferences for executives incomplementaryenterprisesonthestrategicallocationofattentiontofosterbreakthrough innovation，aswell as for enhancing platform governance.
