Spatiotemporal Dynamics of Leaf Shape Coefficient of Tobacco During Field Period

Abstract: To investigate the temporal and spatial dynamics of the leaf shape coefficient ( a value) in field-grown tobacco, this study usedNicotianatabacumcv.Yunyan87astheexperimentalmaterial.Bymeasuringtheleaflength,leafwidth,andleafreauder different developmental stages (temporal factor), planting densities,and leaf positions (spatial factors),the a values under various temporalandspatialconditionswerecalulatedtoclarifythecharacteristicsandunderlyingmechanismsofthetemporalandspatial dynamics in a values.Resultsshowed that planting density had no significant effecton a values,while itsinteractionwith leaf position exhibited significant effect.The average a values of different densities across leaf position showed a trend of decreaseincrease-decrease-increase with the days after transplanting.Over the whole growth period, the a valuesfor each leaf positionof Yunyan 87 fluctuated between 0.512and 0.860.Logisticmodel fitingresultssuggested thatthe inconsistent growthratesof leaf length and width might be the main cause of fluctuations of a values.Therefore,when calculating tobacco leaf area using a values, it isrecommended to incorporate the a values corresponding to different developmental stages and leaf positions into the formula to improve the accuracy of leaf area calculation.The a values for different developmental stages and leaf positions obtained in this study,along withtheproposed methods,provideabasisformoreacurateandconvenientleafareacalculations intobaco production.
