Effects of organic selenium on the growth of apple rootstock seedlings under salt stress

Abstract:Apple dwarf rootstock P6 seedlings were cultivated in a substrate composed of charcoal,vermiculite,and perliteata ratio of 6:3:1 .A100 mmol/L NaCl salt stress treatment was applied,and then irrigated with organic selenium solutions at three concentrations (5,10,and 20g/kg) ,eachappliedatavolumeof 48mL .Normal-growingand salt-stressed seedlings served as controls to investigate the mitigation effect of organic selenium on P6 seedlings under salt stress. Results indicated that compared to NaCl-stressed seedlings,organic selenium treatment significantly reduced the relative electrical conductivityofP6 leaf tissue,increased soluble protein and proline content,and enhanced the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD),peroxidase (POD), and catalase (CAT).This effectively mitigated the physiological damage caused by salt stress to P6 seedlings. The most pronounced mitigation effect was observed with 5g/kg organic selenium treatment.
