Abstract:Interferonregulatoryfactor3(IRF3)isakeymemberoftheinterferonregulatoryfactors(IRFs)family.Itisa crucial transcriptionfactor inregulating host-bacteriainteractions,anditsactivationisessentialfortypeIinterferon (IFN-I)-mediatedantibacterialdefense.However,thefunctionofIRF3inbacterialinfectionsisnotstatic:changesin thecellarmicroenvironmentor diferences in activated signaling pathwayscan transform it froma "defender"toa "promoter".ThisarticlereviewsthemechanismofIRF3asamultifunctionaltranscriptionfactorinbacterial infections, withafocusonrecentresearchprogress inits involvementindiferentbacterialinfectionprocesses throughinducing IFN-I expression or IFN-I-independent signal transductionpathways,with theaimof providing a theoretical basis for the clinical treatment of bacterial infections.
