Abstract:【Objective】Theforest structuredeterminesits function.Naturalsecondary forestisatypeof degraded forest ecosystemformedaftertheinterferenceofprimaryforests.Thisstudyaimstoexplorethestructuralcharacteristicsof naturalsecondarypoplar-birch forestsandclarifytheirdriving factors,providingabasisforpromoting thequality improvementof natural forestsandtherestorationofecological functions.【Method】Thediferencesinspatialstructure parametersand comprehensive evaluation index(FSS)of natural secondarypoplar-birch forests at diferent development stages were compared and analyzed.Based on the management urgency evaluation system,the managementurgency level ofnatural secondary poplar-birch forestsat diferent development stages inWeichang Countywasevaluated. 【Result】(1)Asthe poplar-birch secondaryforests develop,theFSSvaluegraduallyincreases,withanaverage improvementofO.13intheFSSof managed stands.(2)Theurgencyevaluationindexof stand managementinthe early stage of natural secondary forest of untended poplarand birch wasabove O.6O,and the standwas faraway from the characteristicsof healthyand stable forest,so it must bemanaged.Inthemidlestageof development,theurgency evaluation index offorest management wasaboutO.4O,which wasverynecessary for management.Inthe latestageof development,the urgency evaluation indexof forest management wasabout O.3O,which could be moderately managed. (3)After tending,theevaluation indices offorest management urgency ineach development stageof poplar-birch natural secondary forest was lower than thatbefore tending,and themanagementurgency indices basedon theeight-index system wasgenerall lower than thatofthe11 indeicessystem.【Conclusion】With the advancementof thedevelopmental stagesof thepoplar-birch secondaryforest stands,thestandstructuregraduallyoptimizes,and theurgency for management significantlydecreases.Theresultsof thisstudycanlaythefoundationforintegrating themanagement technical system of natural secondary poplar-birch forests in the Weichang region.
