Abstract:【Objective]The edge efect refers to the phenomenon that some components within the ecosystems change significantlydue tothediferencesandinteractionsofecological factorsatthejunctionofdiferentecosystems.This phenomenon isubiquitouslyobservedacross diverse ecosystemsincluding forests,wetlandsand grasslands.The investigationofforest edge efects holdssubstantial importance foradvancing ecological conservationeforts,enhancing forestry management practices,addressng climate change impacts,and refining carbon storageestimations.【Method】 This studyquantified edge effcts in Robinia pseudoacacia plantations in theYellow Riverdelta using UAV-LiDARand Sentinel-2data.Seven structuralandthreephysiological indiceswereanalyzedtoassess3Dstructuralandecological functional variations,with distinctedgeefect pattrns identifiedacross differentedge types.【Result】(1)Theedge effect significantlyaltered vegetationstructural parameters,withobserved reductionsof1-5mintree height, 7%-53% (204号 invegetation coverage, 10%-77% in leaf area index(LAI),and 6%-52% in tree density. Canopy structural features, includingprojectedareaandvolume,alsoexhibitedmarked decreases.(2)Ecological functionsweresubstantially compromised at forest edges,manifested by impaired photosynthetic capacity with 8%-50% reduction in fraction of absorbed photosyntheticallyactive radiation(FAPAR), 9%-72% decline in chlorophyll content,and 8%-50% (204号 decrease incanopy watercontent.(3)Edge influencezonesshowed distinct spatial paterns,with riveredges demonstratinganextensive impactrangeof15O meters,contrasting with therelatively limited 30-meterinfluence zoneof road edges.【Conclusion】Theedge effect exertsmultidimensional influences on both structural characteristicsand ecosystemfunctionalitiesofcoastalshelterbeltsintheYelowRiverDelta.Thisresearchprovidescritical insightsfor enhancing coastal shelterbelt managementandconservation strategies,facilitating theoptimizationofsustainableforest plantation development,and contributing to climatechange mitigationand regional environmentalrestorationefforts.
