Abstract：Extract-based pillsarea type of pill prepared from concentrate through prolonged decoction and concentration.Their preparation involves two keyprocesses：soft extract concentrationand pill formation.The formulationof extract-based pilsrecorded inthe Sheng Ji Zong Lu（Comprehensive Recordingof DivineAssistance） follows he principle of tailoring to the specific properties of Chinese herbal medicine.Depending on the property， flavor，and textureof the ingredients，either the decoction-concentrate method or the direct powder method is employed forpillformation.Conventional preparation techniques for extract-based pillsare categorized into two types ： whole-prescriptiondecoction-concentratepillformationandpartial-ingredientdecoction-concentratepillformation. These methods are supplemented with specialized techniques，such as sequential decoction for extractionand the reuse of medicinalresidues.Inclinical application，due totheir concentratedandpotent efects，extract-based pillsare particularly effctive in treating chronic and refractory diseases，such as consumptive disorders，accumulationaggregation masss，infantilemalnutrition，and amenorrhea in women.Although modern concentrated pills have evolved from extract-based pils with improved extraction techniques，the sophisticated preparation methods and unique formulation principles of extract-based pilshavenotbeen fully inherited.Therefore，this paper explores andanalyzes the herbalselection，preparation，and therapeuticcharacteristics of extract-based pilsrecorded inthe Sheng Ji Zong u，aiming to serve as areference forcontemporary theoretical researchand clinical practice in pillformulation.
