Design of programmable microwave radiometer based on software defined radio

Abstract:Traditional microwaveradiometer has low integration,fixed RF front-end function,and limited programmability in digital back-end. To solve the above problems, a software defined radiometer with programmable RF front-end and digital processing back-end is designed and implemented based on software defined radio (SDR) technology. The core of programmable RF front-end adopts an SDR platform with zero intermediate frequency architecture, achieving configurable frequency ranges,bandwidth, gain, etc.Digital processing back-end uses an FPGA embedded in ARM to perform real-time FFT spectrum procesing and power spectrum integration,supporting the identification and elimination of radio frequency interference.This type of radiometer covers L, S and C bands, and integration time is adjustable within 500-1000ms . The system sensitivity is 0.13K through experimental testing inL band. In China, this software defined radiometer took the lead in realizing RF front-end programmability, supporting dynamic adjustment of working bands and parameters, and achieving a breakthrough.
