Summary of the best evidence for non-pharmacological pain management in patients with osteoarthritis

Abstract Objective:To summarize the best evidence for non-pharmacological pain management in patients with osteoarthritis and provide a basis for clinical nursing intervention.Methods:Literature was retrieved systematically from BMJ Best Practice,UK National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE),National Guideline Clearinghouse (NGC),Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI),American College of Rheumatology (ACR),OARSI,the Cochrane Library,Web of Science,EMbase,PubMed,CNKI,WanFang Database,and other database resources. The search time limit was from establishing the database to November 30,2022. Three researchers used the JBI literature evaluation criteria and evidence grading system to independently evaluate the literature quality and the evidence level.Results:A total of 14 articles were included,including 9 guidelines,4 expert consensus articles,and 1 systematic review. A total of 31 pieces of evidence covered 7 aspects,including multidisciplinary intervention,pain assessment,exercise therapy,weight management,psychological and social intervention,health education,self-management,and follow-up.Conclusion:The summary of the best evidence on non-pharmacological pain management for patients with osteoarthritis could provide an evidence-based basis for nursing staff to develop personalized care plans.
