Summary of the best evidence on dietary decision aids for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus

Abstract  Objective:To integrate the best evidence on dietary decision-making aids for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM) and provide a reference for clinical nurses.Methods:According to the "6S" evidence model,relevant literature on dietary decision-making of T2DM patients was retrieved from clinical decision-making websites,guideline websites,English databases,Chinese databases,and diabetes association websites in China and abroad. All the evidence was extracted and aggregated after evaluating the literature quality of various studies.Results:A total of 10 documents were included,including 4 guidelines,1 systematic review,1 qualitative study,and 4 randomized controlled trials (RCTs). A total of the 28 best pieces of evidence on dietary decision-making aids for T2DM patients in 5 aspects were summarised:target assessment,core elements,presentation format,health education,and outcome indicators.Conclusions:The summarised best evidence on dietary decision-making aids for T2DM patients provides an evidence-based basis for clinical nurses to compile and apply related tools. Nurses can conduct practical research based on clinical scenarios and patients′ dietary decision-making situations.
