Summary of the best evidence for nursing care of indwelling nasogastric tubes in stroke patients

Abstract  Objective：To retrieve，evaluate，and integrate the best evidence on the care of indwelling nasogastric tubes in stroke patients to provide an evidence-based basis for clinical nursing work.Methods：Based on the "6S" model of evidence-based resources，the best evidence on the nursing of stroke patients during the nasogastric tube indwelling period was retrieved，including clinical decision-making，guidelines，best practices，expert consensus，Meta-analysis，evidence summary，and randomized controlled trials. The search time limit was January 1，2013 to April 30，2023. Two researchers independently screened the literature，selected the literature that met the standards for quality evaluation，and extracted evidence from the literature that met the quality standards.Results：A total of 27 documents were finally included，and 38 pieces of evidence were extracted from five aspects：before catheterization，during catheterization，management of the catheterization process，before extubation，and after extubation.Conclusions：The summarised best evidence on the nursing of indwelling nasogastric tubes in stroke patients can provide an evidence-based basis for clinical nursing practice. It is recommended that medical staff combine the actual selective application of evidence to further improve the nursing measures for indwelling nasogastric tubes in stroke patients.
