Main postharvest diseases of blueberries and their control methods

Abstract: Blueberies are highly valued for their nutritional benefits, but postharvest diseases significantly impact their quality and economic returns. Major diseases include gray mold, anthracnose,black rot,and bacterial contamination, which spread via spores and rapidly infect fruits under favorable conditions. Control strategies involve chemical, physical, and biological methods. Chemical control is effective but raises concerns about resistance and residues.Physical approaches, such as cold storage,modified atmosphere packaging,and UV-C treatment, help slow disease progression. Biological control, including antagonistic microbes, plant essential oils, and chitosan coatings, is gaining attention due to its safety and sustainability. Future eforts should focus on integrating and optimizing multiple control strategies to develop environmentally friendly and efficient postharvest disease management for blueberries.
